AlthoughI’dtakenalotofprogra妹妹ingclassesincollege,Ineverfullyappreciatedprogra妹妹inguntilIhadajobthatinvolvedalotofrepetitivetasks.Afteramusingmyselfbyautomatingmuchofthatjob,Idecidedtoreturntoschoolandstudybiol-ogy,whichiswhenItookmyfirstGIScourse.Iwasinstantlyinlove,andmanagedtoconvincesomeonetogivemeabiologydegreeforwritinganextensionforArcViewGIS(aprecursortoArcGIS,foryouEsrifansoutthere).Afterfinishingthatup,IwenttoworkfortheRemoteSensing/GeographicInformationSystemsLaboratoryatUtahStateUniversity.Oneofmyfirstprojectsinvolvedsomewebmapping,andIsoonbecameabigfanoftheopensourceUMNMapServersoftware.Thatwasmyintroduc-tiontoopensourcegeospatialsoftware,includingGDAL.I’mfairlycertainthatIdidn’tappreciatethepoweroftheGDAL/OGRlibrarywhenIfirstlearnedaboutit,butIcametomysensesonceIstartedusingitinmyC++andC#code.IntheCollegeofNaturalResources,thereweren’tmanypeoplearoundwhowereinterestedincoding,butIdidgettopointpeopletotheGDALco妹妹and-lineutilitiesonaregularbasis.ButthenEsriintroducedPythonasthescriptinglanguageofchoiceforArcGIS,andthingsstartedtochange.Idon’tthinkIhadusedPythonmuchbeforethen,butplayingwitharcgisscripting(theoriginalEsriPythonmodule)mademerealizehowmuchIenjoyedworkingwithPython,sonaturallyIhadtostartusingGDALwithitaswell.Moreimportantlyforthisbook,mycoworkerJohnLowrysuggestedthatweteam-teachaPython-for-GISclass.HetaughtstudentshowtousePythonwithArcGIS,andItaughtthemaboutGDAL.Theclassturnedouttobepopular,sowetaughtitthatwayforanotherfewyearsuntilJohnmovedaway.Itookovertheentireclassandhavebeenteachingitinvariousconfigurationseversince.I’veneverbotheredtotaketheclassmaterialfromthefirsttwoy 本软件ID:10327610
